Mrs. Veida Myrl "Bennie" Allen

Mrs. Veida Myrl "Bennie" Allen, 83, of Sylvester died Wednesday June 12, 2013 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday June 15, 2013 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Mrs. Allen was born on May 1, 1930 in Mitchell County to the late Solon "Bud" and Estelle Hughes Harris. She married Robert McCoy Allen on January 18, 1947 and had lived in Worth County most of her life until moving to Albany in 2007. Mrs. Allen was the Owner of Allen's Grill and Carter's Fried Chicken before retiring in 1997. She was known for her delicious dressing, and on each holiday many people came to her to make dressing for their families. Mrs. Allen was a devoted member of Northside Baptist Church and the OPETL (Old People Eager To Learn) Sunday School Class and she sang in the choir. She was also a member of Tops in Putney, GA., and enjoyed attending conventions where she achieved many awards for maintaining her KOPS status. Mrs. Allen was an avid camper and enjoyed camping in the North Georgia Mountains and at Ft. Gaines where she would sit around the campfire sharing stories with family and friends. She loved playing bingo and listening to music with friends at Morningside Assisted Living Center. Survivors include her children, Wayne Allen (Laney) of Albany, GA; Connie A. Crumbley (David) of Gray, GA; and Randy Allen (Marie) of Albany, GA; grandchildren, Sherry Wilson (Alan), Ashley Jacobs (Josh), Justin Allen, Ali Gober, Ria Reed (Mike) and Laci Allen, great grandchildren, Taylor, Kendall and Sydney Wilson, Jenna and Jack Jacobs, step grandchildren, Chris Maniscalco (Brandy), Tony Maniscalco (Laura), Justin Watson (Lindsey), Jeff Watson (Bethanie), Jordyn Allen, Katie Comer (Trey) and Ross Crumbley, step great grandchildren, Jack, Mackenzie, Colin and Drew Maniscalco, Jackson and Harrison, Davis and Takota Reed, former daughters-in-law, Veronica Nutt Mercer (Ronnie) and Kathy Spradley Allen and a vast number of nieces and nephews as well as a number of great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband Robert McCoy Allen, sisters, Willa Harris, Hallie H. Wilkes, Dorothy Sassman Dunn and Neta H. Swilley, brothers, Van Harris, Hoke Harris and Kenneth Harris.
