Mrs. Betty "Dean" Morris

Betty Rudine “Dean” Morris, age 91, of Sylvester, Georgia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Having joyfully celebrated her 92nd birthday a little early with those she loved, her family lovingly claims those 92 years as a full and blessed life. Born on May 7, 1934, in Tifton, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Marshall & Gertrude Taylor. Dean lived a life rooted in unwavering faith, love, and service. While she lived simply, her life was rich in the things that matter most: her devotion to Christ, her commitment to her family, and her dedication to serving others. Dean was a faithful servant of the Lord and a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Sylvester for many years. She served as WMU Director, passionately leading mission's efforts and initiatives, including the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, and always striving to further God’s kingdom. She found great joy in worship music and praising her Savior, and her life was a reflection of God’s grace and love. A devoted mother and grandmother, Dean raised her children in the knowledge of the Lord, instilling in them a strong foundation of faith that continues through generations. She cherished time spent with her family and friends, whether gathered together in fellowship or enjoying a simple game of cards. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and steadfast faith left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Dean was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, James William Morris, Sr.; her parents, Marshall Taylor & Sarah Blanchard; and her sister, Alice Faye Massey. She is survived by her brother, Tommy Ray Taylor; her four children, James William “Bill” (Barbara) Morris, Jr. of Sylvester, Boyd "Ray" (Cheryl) Morris of Sylvester, Donald “Don” Leroy (Misty) Morris of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, and Jan (Hank) Wadkins of Sylvester; her grandchildren, Deana Jordan, Jay Morris, Rena Johnson, Kayla Couch, Jana Dyke, Josh Wadkins, Ben Morris, Erin Morris, Megan Davis, and Brandon Morris; and 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom are part of her enduring legacy of faith. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Sylvester. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Though she will be deeply missed, her family rejoices in the promise of eternal life and the assurance that she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior.
