Mr. Walter Samuel "Sammy" Whittington Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mr. Walter Samuel "Sammy" Whittington, 75, of Tifton, died on Monday, July 11, 2022, at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia in Tifton. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 15, 2022, at Banks Funeral Home Chapel. A private interment will be held at Wrights Chapel Cemetery. The Rev. Todd Brooks will officiate. Mr. Whittington was born on May 24, 1947 in Moultrie Georgia, to the late Walter Cleveland, and Fannie Faye Burch Whittington. He had lived in Tift County most of his life, and was formerly employed with Russ Ponder Farms where he worked as a truck driver. Mr. Whittington enjoyed farming, fishing, and spending Sundays and holidays with his family. He was of the Baptist Faith. Survivors include his wife, Margie Whittington of Tifton; children, Keith Whittington (Elaine) of Chula, Chuck Parks (Jacqueline) of Lenox, Michael Randall (Amelia) of Locust Grove, and Melinda Rutland (Robbie) of Lenox, GA; grandchildren, Tim Whittington (Cindy), Kyle Whittington, Kellie Whittington, Autumn Sumner (Nicky), Austin Rutland, and Melissa Gandy; great grandchildren, Maddie Gandy, Abbie Gandy, Braylynn Whittington, Abigail Whittington, Sedona Whittington, Davis Whittington, and Saylor Sumner; siblings, Virginia Douglas (Buddy), Shelia Douglas (Tom), Margie Dorsey, Robin Whittington (Linda), and Stanley Whittington; sister-in-law, Tina Whittington. In addition to his parents, Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by his siblings, Billy Whittington, Terry Whittington, Charlotte Douglas, and Winnie Davis.
