Mr. Joseph David Brooks, Sr., 84, of Tifton, died Friday, April 14, 2017, at home after a short illness. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. The funeral service will be at 11 AM on Monday, April, 17, 2017, at Evergreen Baptist Church with interment to follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Brooks was born on December 23, 1932, in Worth County to the late Lonnie Marshall and Willie Lee Hancock Brooks. He had lived in Tift County since 1969, moving there from the Evergreen Community. Mr. Brooks was a Veteran, having served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He owned and operated B&B Livestock Products with his brother, Charles, for 12 years. After selling to W.B. Fleming, he continued to work for them up until his passing. Mr. Brooks enjoyed his farm, his tractors, and fishing, but his greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved the Lord and was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jeanette Brooks of Tifton; children, Debra Anderson (John) of Meridian, MS, David Brooks, Jr., and Marcie Spinks (Michael) all of Tifton; grandchildren, Casey Haarala (Ryan), Kristen Armstrong, John Anderson, Jr. (Kristin), Jen Chestnutt, Brooke Price (Brett), and Joseph Spinks; great-grandchildren, Lily Anderson, Hamp Haarala, Foster Armstrong, Holt Haarala, Hudson Haarala, Anna Armstrong, Tristin Anderson, Gaston Anderson; siblings, Jewell Barksdale of Sylvester, Charles Brooks (Joan) of Tifton, Joyce Thomaston (Harold) of Thomasville, Cleston Brooks of Sylvester, Berry Brooks of Sylvester, and sister-in-law, Joann Brooks of Sylvester. Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Lee Brooks; brothers, Junior Brooks, Jack Brooks, and Terry Brooks; and sisters, Georgia Brooks Langley and Louise Brooks Bartley. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10 AM until the service hour at Evergreen Baptist Church. Banks Funeral Home in Sylvester is in charge of the arrangements.
