Jimmie Justina Young Hancock, 76, of Sumner, Georgia passed away at her daughter’s resident in Sumner, Worth County, Georgia on Sunday, May 29, 2011. Funeral services were held at Terrell Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 31 at 11:00 A.M. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Duggan and the Rev. Brad Hughes officiating. Mrs. Hancock was born on September 8, 1934, in Worth County, Georgia to the late James Roy Young, Sr. and Mamie Lee Turner Young. She and William Jack Hancock, Sr. were married June 1, 1952. They resided in Worth County until moving to Quitman, Georgia in 1969. The couple and their four children moved to Belle Glade, Florida in 1971. In 1984, Mr. and Mrs. Hancock returned to Sumner. Mrs. Hancock, a member of Terrell Baptist accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a young teenager. Mema, as she was affectionately known, enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren sharing Bible stories with children, and sewing. Mrs. Hancock was preceded in death by her husband William Jack Hancock, Sr.; sister Juanita Y. Sawyer; and brother James Roy Young, Jr. She is survived by her son William “Bill” Jack (Chrissy Kirchman) Hancock, Jr. of Sumner; her daughters: Peggy H. (Andy) Wilson of Sumner; Jill H. (Mike) Cunningham of Hahira; and Jan H. (Jeff) Royal of Belle Glade. Florida; seven grandsons: Will (Ashley) Wilson, Chris Cunningham, Jason (Melissa) Cunningham, Bryan Royal, Kevin Royal, David Royal, and Joshua Hancock; three granddaughters: Amy (Jeff) Fitzgerald, Ashley (Zeb) Bielling, and Brooke Hancock; ten g reat-grandchildren: Brandon, Bailey, and Bo Cunningham; Camden and Ellie Jane Cunningham; Drew Anne and Davis Amelia Fitzgerald; Addie and Lily Bieiling; Georgeanna Wilson; her sisters; Latrelle Y. Stewart of Sumner and Carolyn Y Conger of Fitzgerald. Active pallbearers were her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews.
