MGySgt George E. Phillips (ret.), 84, of Worth County, died Saturday January 8, 2022 at his residence. The remains were cremated and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday January 13, 2022 at the Banks Funeral Home Chapel with full military honors. The Rev. Bobby Joe Brown will officiate. Mr. Phillips was born in Webster County, West Virginia on February 11, 1937 to the late Fenton and Tessie Faulkner Phillips. He was retired from the United States Marine Corps with over 20 years of service. Following his retirement, Mr. Phillips went to work as a Logistics Contractor at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany. He loved the outdoors, working in his garden and canning all his vegetables. Survivors include his son, George E. Phillips, Jr.( Nicole) of Worth County; 7 grandchildren; sister, Wilma Steele of Virginia; niece Christy Hanshaw and a nephew, Paul Goff of both of West Virginia. In addition to his parents, Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Jean Phillips on May 17, 2019. Banks Funeral Home in Sylvester is in charge of arrangements.
