Mr. Carl J. Harris, 67, of Sumner died Saturday September 3, 2011 at his residence. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday September 7, 2011 at Summer's Chapel with interment to follow in Summer's Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Freddie Stone officiating. Mr. Harris was born on April 8, 1944 to the late Christopher Columbus and Mary Elizabeth Cooper Harris in Worth County, where he has lived all his life. He served in the U.S. Army, worked with J. P. Stevens and retired from the Department of Transportation where he worked in the road maintenance division. Mr. Harris was a member of the Summer's Chapel Holiness Church, where he served and loved the lord and his family. Survivors include his sons, Conway V. Harris (Sandy) of Poulan, Paul Harris of Tifton, Hank Harris (Beth) of Fitzgerald; his loving grandchildren and best friends, Brittany Harris, Brianna Harris, Bethany Harris and Brennan Harris; sisters, Sue Merritt of Tifton, Maxine Edge (Gary) of Jacksonville , GA, Marie Harris of Dahlonega; brothers, Ernest Harris (Susan) of Omega, Michael Harris (Lisa) of Tifton, Christopher C. Harris, Jr. (Pam) of Valdosta. In addition to his parents Mr. Harris was preceded in death by a brother Christopher Eugene Harris. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Banks Funeral Home.
