Mrs. Jean Shiver Woolard

Mrs. Jean Shiver Woolard, 87, of St. Simons Island, and formerly of Sylvester, GA, passed away Monday, September 18, 2017 after a long illness. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church in Sylvester with interment to follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery. The Rev. Marcia Cochran, of St. Simons Island United Methodist Church, will officiate. Mrs. Woolard was born on September 19, 1929 in the Red Rock Community to the late Erman C. and Lois Kemp Shiver. She had lived on St. Simons Island since 2003, moving there from Sylvester where she had lived most of her life. Mrs. Woolard graduated from Sylvester High School and the University of Georgia. She married her beloved husband, W. H. (Bill) Woolard, on August 20, 1950 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage before his death in 2013. Mrs. Woolard was a devoted military wife who took her family to various military posts including Clark Airbase, (Philippines), Florida, Georgia, California, and Texas. She retired after many years of teaching in the Worth County School System. Mrs. Woolard enjoyed travelling with close friends when Bill retired from the military and playing golf. Survivors include her children, Nancy Rentz (John) of St. Simons Island, John Shiver Woolard (Nina) of Boerne, TX, Beth Fennell (Chip) of St. Simons Island and Mary Jean Alford (Randy) of Albany; grandchildren, Ryan Rentz (Pauline) of St. Simons Island, Claire Rentz of Atlanta, Meredith Woolard Clark (Christian) of San Antonio, TX, Megan Woolard Arrendondo (Richard) of San Antonio, TX, Patrick Kemp Woolard (Kayleigh) of Boerne, TX, Libby Fennell of Los Angeles, CA, Jacob Fennell (Hilaree) of Los Angeles, CA, Kristen Courson (Clint) of Macon, Matt Alford (Amber) of Fayetteville and Laura Medlin (Tyler) of Perry; great-grandchildren, Mae Rentz, Holly Arredondo, Cora Woolard, Theo Woolard, Luke Courson, Grant Courson, Addie Alford, Aubrey Alford and Bryson Medlin; and a brother, Joe Kemp Shiver of Sylvester. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Woolard was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, William H. "Bill" Woolard on July 9, 2013 and her brother, E. C. (Josh) Shiver. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the Service Hour at Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church. September 19, 1929 - September 18, 2017
