Mrs. Emma Jewell Barksdale

Mrs. Emma Jewell Barksdale, formerly of Worth County, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Pinson Memorial United Methodist Church, interment will follow in the Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery. Elder Marc Davis and Rev. Todd Brooks will officiate. Mrs. Barksdale was 95 years of age at the time of her death, and she was born on October 10, 1927, in Colquitt County, Georgia, to Lonnie Marshall Brooks and Willie Lee Hancock Brooks. Mrs. Barksdale grew up in Worth County and lived there most of her life, where she married on November 3, 1946 and created a home with her loving husband, William Ralph Barksdale. She was a devoted wife and mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mrs. Barksdale was known for her love for Jesus, being a prayer warrior, serving her family, church, and community, as well as keeping everyone else on their toes. She was also a phenomenal cook and an avid gardener. Mrs. Barksdale loved to embroider and she made each of her children and grandchildren an embroidered quilt. Survivors include her sister, Joyce Brooks Thomaston, and one brother, Berry Brooks, and her four children: Ronald Barksdale (Wanda), Margaret Underwood (Ralph), Edward Barksdale (Wanda), and Laura Davis (Marc). In addition, she is survived by her fifteen grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Her surviving grandchildren are Van Barksdale (Elizabeth), Jason Barksdale (Amanda), Will Barksdale (Lea Anna), Clay Underwood (Selina), Holly Walker (Rob), Lance Underwood (Sarah), Ryan Underwood(Candace), Melissa McLeod (Pat), Glynn Barksdale, Jr. (Amanda), Travis Barksdale, Jacob Barksdale (Olivia), Amanda Weathers (Luke), Caleb Davis, Elizabeth Davis, and Joanna Davis. Her surviving great grandchildren are Madison Mae Barksdale and Emma Taylor Barksdale (Dana Gray Barksdale-mother), Caroline Barksdale, Preston Barksdale, Julia Ann Barksdale, Bella Underwood, Henry Underwood, Ann Catherine Walker, John Robert Walker, Fletcher Edward Walker, Eleanor Margaret Walker, Brantley Wayne Underwood, Jack Thomas Underwood, John Dixon Underwood, Olivia Jewel Underwood, Alexandra Kate Underwood, Jessica Ann Hansen(Justin), Georgia Ann McLeod, Aden Glynn Barksdale, Owen Glynn Barksdale, Olivia Sue Claudette Barksdale, Brian Travis Barksdale, Luke Thomas Weathers, Jr., David Richard Weathers, Jonathan Marc Weathers, Madelyn Grace Weathers; and a special friends, Dana Gray Barksdale, and Pat Williams. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barksdale was preceded in death by her husband, William Ralph Barksdale and eight of her siblings.
