Mrs. Clarie Myers Whitfield

Mrs. Clarie Myers Whitfield, 82, of Sylvester, died on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Cypress Ponds Assisted Living Center in Tifton, Ga. The graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the Hillcrest Cemetery. The Rev. Donnie Duncan will officiate. Mrs. Whitfield was born on April 2, 1938 in Camak, GA. to the late Thomas and Sue Edwards Myers and had seven siblings. Clarie taught oil painting to adults and drawing to children in her home for many years. She was Special Events Coordinator for the Worth Co. Cancer Society in the 70's and 80's, hosting luaus, spaghetti dinners and donating her paintings for auctions. She started "The Worth Players (little theatre) years ago, whose proceeds also benefitted cancer research. Upon her husband's retirement, they both taught GED prep classes together for several years. Clarie became a born again Christian in 2017. Clarie loved trivia and was a voracious reader. She passed her love of learning on to her children. She was an avid gardener in her day, a fabulous cook & doll-maker. She is survived by her children Lauren (Mark) Newman of Senoia, GA. Catherine (David) Orr of Albany, Suzanne (Alan) Smith of Tifton and Jimmy (Kandy) Whitfield of Colbert GA. She is also survived by her dear sisters Shirley M. Nabors of Hazlehurst, GA and Jimmie M. Johnson of Greensboro, GA. Clarie was known as "Sugar" to her 11 grandchildren:Trevor Bachman, Sarah Bachman, William Orr, Samuel Orr, Andrew Orr, Caroline Orr, Abby Smith, Nicholas Smith, Noah Smith, Austin Stewart and Thomas Whitfield. Clarie was also honored to have a namesake in Clarie Moree, daughter of "adopted grandson" Jake Moree and his wife Ashley. Her children would like to thank the staff of Cypress Pond of Tifton and Hospice of Tift Area, for the excellent care given to their mother. Clarie was preceded in death by her husband James "Buckshot" Whitfield, her parents, her brother T. G. Myers, sisters Kathryn M. Johnson, Evelyn M. Hillman, Betty Sue M. Jordan and Ann M. Cofer.
