Charles Barry Bowen

Charles “Barry” Bowen, 71, of Poulan, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 10, 2026 in the Banks Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Donnie Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in the Poulan Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the Service Hour at Banks Funeral Home. Mr. Bowen was born on March 3, 1955, to Albert Wallace Bowen and Joyce Dorminy Bowen. The youngest of four children, he looked up to and adored his two older brothers and his older sister. Mr. Bowen graduated from Worth County High School where he was an all-star athlete lettering in football and baseball. He played football for Newberry College in South Carolina and, after Newberry, returned home to Worth County, the place he loved most. Mr. Bowen spent his career with Norfolk Southern and Georgia & Florida Railway. Mr. Bowen was married to Peggy Eason Bowen and they had two children, Brooke and Garrett. Mr. Bowen always had a smile on his face and could often be heard cracking a joke and doing things to bring a smile to others. His happiest times were spent outdoors with family and friends, particularly coaching his son’s little league baseball teams, listening to Butterfly Kisses with his daughter, playing Sunday golf with his buddies, riding his Harley-Davidson with “The Wild Hogs and Rex,” and playing with his grandchildren. Mr. Bowen is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Garrett and Brittney Bowen of Tifton, and their children Ava, Knoxx, and Lincoln, as well as his daughter and son-in-law Brooke Bowen Harwell and Josh Harwell of Atlanta, and their children Charlotte and Davis. Mr. Bowen is also survived by his sister Gail (Bill) Carlton of Tallahassee, his brother Johnny Bowen, his lifelong companion and friend Peggy Eason Bowen, some special aunts, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr. Bowen is preceded in death by his parents and brother Weldon. Mr. Bowen was loyal and loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and his advice, wisdom, and humor will be passed on through the years.
